The David Collection contains a significant collection of Danish ceramics from circa 1900 to 1950. These works rank among some of museum’s most recent testimonies to C.L. David’s great passion for Danish and international ceramics.

An important factor in C.L. David’s interest in ceramics was his friendship with the art historian and museum director Emil Hannover (1864–1923), who, among other things, was most knowledgeable about eighteenth-century applied art. Furthermore, C.L. David was on the board of directors of Den kgl. Porcelainsfabrik, which gave him an excellent knowledge of Danish stoneware production, which was very popular at the time.

The ceramics in The Collection of Danish Early Modern Art is distinguished by containing a broad and representative selection of works created by artists and potters associated with large ceramic companies, smaller workshops or private studios.
