The exhibition was presented through three main themes focusing on the contexts in which Islamic weapons were primarily used: for fighting, hunting and impressing others.
The Magical Spinel

The exhibition presented a selection of the drawings behind the graphic novel, “The Magical Spinel”, as well as two works of art that play a special role in the story: a small gemstone (a pink spinel) and a calligraphic wooden sculpture (a Sufi sign). The drawings are all made by the renowned illustrator, Rasmus Meisler.
From Philipsen to Salto – the Collection of Danish Early Modern Art revisited

On display were a large selection of works from 1880-1950 by Danish artists, such as the brothers Vilhelm and Svend Hammershøi, J. F. Willumsen, the brothers Joakim and Niels Skovgaard, to name but a few. Also more radical, younger artists like Jean Gauguin, Axel Salto, and Svend Rathsack were represented.
Under Indian Skies – 19th-Century Photographs from a Private Collection

The exhibition consisted of over 80 photographs and photo albums from India from around 1850 to the beginning of the 20th century.

The photo exhibition displayed a series of travel photographs, taken by the Danish photographer, Torben Huss, during his travels to the East in the 1960s and 1970s.
The Human Figure in Islamic Art – Holy Men, Princes, and Commoners

The exhibition presented 75 masterpieces from large parts of the classical Islamic world to about 1850, all of them featuring human figures.
Impasse Hotel Syria – photographs by Krass Clement

The photo exhibition presented pictures taken in 2001 during a trip to Syria, where the artist visited the cities of Damascus, Palmyra, Deir ez-Zur, Homs, and Aleppo.
The Colors of Djibouti – Photographs by Peter Bonnén

The photo exhibition displayed large-scale color photographs taken by the artist on a journey to the little Muslim land of Djibouti on the Horn of Africa.
SHAHNAMA – The Colorful Epic About Iran’s Past

The special exhibition displayed more than 50 miniatures from the Iranian national epic Shahnama.

On display were photographs in black and white, taken in the Indian villages in the late 1970s by the famous Italian photographer, Gianni Berengo Gardin, born in 1930.

This special exhibition had its focus on the museum’s Islamic Collection and the two types of vessels that were used to fill the air with fragrances.
Travels in Turkey. Photographs by Finn Larsen

The Danish photographer, Finn Larsen, displayed a series of photographs taken during travels to Turkey between 1988 and 2013. The photographs represent a journey in the midst of it all. In the middle of Turkey. In the midst of its everyday life.

Block Prints from the Indus Valley – Textiles Collected by Lisette Kampmann in the 1980s

The special display showed block-printed textiles from the Danish artist Lisette Kampmann who collected them during her travels in Pakistan in the 1980s. Also displayed were photos taken by Lisette Kampmann during the time she spent among block printers in the Thar Desert.
